Restaurant sofa BOX I

Durability is easy to describe in general terms. With BOX I we do not have to, because we have one case that says everything.

In 2016 we made more than 200 linear metres of this model for a large night club in Katowice in Poland. Eight years later the customer came back. The frame and the foam were sound, and only the fabric was worn, so we recovered the whole delivery, all of those 200 plus metres.

Eight years of operation in a night club is a load no laboratory test reproduces.

Measurements

A plain shape that here is a choice, not a saving

BOX I has neither seams, buttoning nor channels. The back runs in one surface, the form is angular, and the whole piece is covered in one fabric.

In a piece meant to stand for many years, every seam is one more place where the material works and wears faster than the smooth surface beside it. A smooth back survives washing and scrubbing better, because there is no seam for dirt to settle into.

That is also why the price is lower. BOX I costs 1 900 NOK per metre, less than the buttoned MONACO at 2 500, even though the construction underneath is in the same class. You are paying for the piece, not for the hours in the stitching.

90 cm, that is, halfway between a sofa and a partition

At 90 cm total height BOX I sits between the low models and the MAX variants.

BASIC is 75 cm and leaves the room open. The MAX variants in this class are 120 cm and divide it into separate rooms. BOX I at 90 cm screens a seated guest up to shoulder height, but does not take away the view through the room from someone standing.

That compromise works where the staff have to see the whole space from where they stand: in clubs, pubs and pizzerias with one bar serving the whole room.

Which venues it ends up in

Night clubs, pubs, pizzerias and places where guests sit at the table for hours and the room is washed daily.

BOX I also gets ordered for spaces that are not hospitality: waiting rooms, training rooms and waiting areas. The plain shape imposes no character on the interior, so it suits places where the furniture should be a background.

What happens after a few years

It is the fabric that wears, not the construction. That is how it went with the 200 plus metres in Katowice, and that is how it usually looks.

Recovering we do only for our own customers, years after the order. The reason is simple: we know our own piece, we know how it is built and what to expect from it. On a piece from another maker we cannot judge that until we have taken it apart.

During that replacement the club was not closed for a single day. We collected a batch of sofas on Monday and delivered them finished on Friday, week after week, until we had been through everything.
