NICEA MAX is a smooth back raised to one hundred and twenty centimetres. It is the largest continuous covered surface in our catalogue: no channels, no buttoning, not one visible seam.

At that height and with that surface the piece stops looking like seating and starts to resemble a covered wall with a seat set against it.

The largest smooth surface in the catalogue

One hundred and twenty centimetres without any division is a different situation from the same back with channels. Channels or buttoning divide the surface into fields and break up the reflection of light. Here that does not happen.

That has two consequences. The room gains a calm, architectural element that orders the space by its surface alone. But also: the fabric has nowhere to hide. A cheap or flat material will look cheap and flat on this surface, and every unevenness underneath becomes visible.

This is the model where spending money on the fabric pays off most.

The joints between modules are the only line on the piece

On models with stitching the eye sees the rhythm of the channels or the net of the buttoning, and does not notice where one segment ends and the next begins. On a smooth surface of this size the module joint is the only horizontal break in the whole run.

So on NICEA MAX we plan the division into segments with particular care, matched to the length of the wall, so that the joints end up where they do not catch the eye: at a corner, at a column or behind the back of a chair.

We make modules as standard at one metre or 1.2 metres, maximum 1.4 linear metres, because that length passes through ordinary doors and stairwells.

Measurements and price

The 200 kroner of difference against NICEA is the cost of a larger covered surface and a taller frame. Foam, depth and seat are identical.

What a tall back without a drawing gives you

One hundred and twenty centimetres rises above the head of a seated guest, so two runs set back to back form separate booths without your putting up a single partition. The large surface of soft material also damps the sound, and in a room with hard surfaces that means a conversation at the table is possible.

The smooth variant does this more discreetly than the models with stitching. It divides the space without drawing attention to itself, so it works well where the interior should remain the main character.

If the piece should be visible, take PARIS MAX with channels or MONACO MAX with buttoning, both at the same height.

Construction and lead time

Foam with a density meant for continuous use. Fabric for serving venues has, with us, at least 40 000 Martindale, and most of the range sits above 100 000.

Made to measure it takes roughly four to six weeks from the moment payment is registered. The minimum order is one linear metre, and before production we ask for at least half the value against a proforma invoice: 968 27 586.
