SNAKE 5 is a triangular wedge, forty centimetres tall, with an outline of 70 x 70. It is the lowest part of the system, and the only one that on its own solves a geometry problem in a room.
Square modules handle the right angle. When walls meet at another angle, or when the composition has to open out like a fan, you need a shape that fills that difference. That is what the wedge is made for.
What the wedge does in a module layout
Set between two straight runs it opens them at an obtuse angle, so the row does not turn sharply but opens gently. Several wedges placed a few modules apart carry the seating along a soft curve, without your using curved elements.
Set at a corner it fills the space where a square ottoman would leave a triangular hole. In a room with an angle that is not ninety degrees this is the simplest way to make the puzzle work out, without sewing a special element.
The most independent part of the system
SNAKE 5 does not have to be connected to the other modules to look right and be useful. It works as an extra seat at a restaurant table, as a low footstool by a hotel sofa, or as a single seat in a concourse.
The triangular outline means several pieces set together can form a star or a fan, which you cannot do with squares alone.
